im so incredibly sickened by stories like this. i dont know whats wrong with people. situations like this and the one in darfur somehow seem to end up as "liberal" causes. i dont understand how we can go to war in iraq but intervening in something like these horrible atrocities isnt somehow justified? im guessing because its just a bunch of poor black folk in the congo being victimized its ok. also theyre just lowly women. oh yeah and their petroleum reserves that fuel its economy are running out so they are getting poorer an poorer but they really only keep the money in africa anyway so they arent much help to us. but since george bush has his good ol boys the christian right fucking everything up and spreading hate and misinformation and fucked up morals like birth control is evil, 5% of the population in the congo are dying of aids. so maybe thats the answer. maybe dubya is thinking it will work itself out when theres no one left. its the christian thing to do.... keep a simple piece of latex from people that has the ability to save their lives so they can die a horrible death. but fuckem because christ suffered too right? and people think religion isnt a disease.

I don't have any moral issues with providing condoms to these people, but if you think that providing them is going to do a damn thing you're more naive than the stupid religious people. Nobody likes condoms. They're worse than not having sex.

But you're naive, that's the point. I know to use them. (I'm married and the pill works just fine.) But dumping a bunch of condoms out of a plane with diagrams isn't going to help all that much. Prostitutes are compensated based on whether they had to use a condom or not, with something like a 4:1 ratio. I'm as godless and liberal as you are, but you've got to stop acting like everyone who points out flaws in your arguement is a moron.

good to hear it.. but i would never personally use the term liberal to label myself. i actually get annoyed with a lot of people who call themselves liberals.

i dont. i absolutely welcome people to point out flaws with my arguments. i dont claim to be perfect. im a firm believer in the scientific method and the peer review process. you show me mistakes in my ideas and ill reconsider them. but you didnt point out any flaw in my argument. i didnt say that using condoms was going to solve all the problmes. hell the main issue was the horriffic rapes and mutilations. of course condoms arent going to do anything to stop that. i simply said that condoms would help stop the spread of aids which was my weak untested hypothesis on why the bush administration wont step in.

oh one more thing. most people with aids are not prostitutes.
I didn't claim that people with AIDS or HIV were prostitutes, but rather offered that in a market where preference can be measured (albeit imperfectly), people prefer sex without condoms 4:1. I realize this seems like a wierd analysis, but the only reason I included it was to offer that condoms alone probably aren't going to fix the problem.
I can see how the focus of your post wasn't on condoms alone.

well i do my best to be nice when the situation calls for it. however sometimes the best answer is the funny one and funny isnt always nice. i dont expect people to be nice to me on here but of course i would like them to be. but i would like them to be funnier. so far no one posting any sort of diagreement about my writings has been funny. so that being said heres a lame joke poking fun at one of my values.
if god didnt want us to eat animals he wouldnt have made them out of meat.
see theres humor in that. a very flawed idea yet funny. people need to learn to laugh at themselves.
